The Delicate Aquatic Environment
Bantham Estate is responsible for administering 75% of the tidal river from Bantham to Aveton Gifford and oversees the sporting rights, harbour facilities, boathouses and moorings.
The river and the surrounding estuarial land, which includes mudflats, saltmarsh and grassland, are carefully managed in order to protect the delicate aquatic habitat. The estuary is the site of an oyster farm, which contributes to our monitoring of the river and surrounding catchment.
